  • INSIDE A VIETNAMESE PRISON - Hanoi, Vietnam |Travel Vlog Ep 46

Hanoi, Vietnam - Hoa Lo Prison Hỏa Lò Prison was a prison used by the French colonists in Vietnam for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. Prisoners of War during the Vietnam War. After Hanoi, Misha and I travel up North to a place called Ha Giang. It's very common for people to get some bikes and do what's referred to as the Northern Loop... so that's what we do. It's AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! By the the most incredible motorbike ride we've ever done. We spent 3 days riding through the mountains of northern Vietnam stopping at local villages throughout the way. Such a great experience. It was eerie to see the dead body of Ho Chi Minh lying in state after 45 years. There wasn't much light inside and there were guards everywhere so any chance of sneaking some video of the body went out the window. My guide eloquently explains the life and death of Ho Chi Minh, former Prime Minister and President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam).

So within the first 3 days of moving to Hanoi, I was already out and about doing apartment hunting. The main source of listings that foreigners use is from the Facebook group "Hanoi Massive Housing." It is completely full of a variety of accommodations and all the realtors/agents that post there are extremely responsive and all spoke English decently. I was looking to be in the Ba Dinh district of Hanoi, mainly cause it's a central location, and it's most authentic in terms of not being flooded with foreigners/expats. The district known for that is Tay Ho, which is around West Lake. I saw some bad places and some decent places. But which one did I go for? I went wi...

HANOI VIETNAM, HANOI AT NIGHT, VIETNAM TRAVEL, HOLIDAY IN VIETNAM, Hanoi (/hæˈnɔɪ/[3] or US /həˈnɔɪ/;[4] Vietnamese: Hà Nội [ha˨˩ noj˩] ( listen)[5]) is the capital of Vietnam and the country's second largest city. Its population in 2009 was estimated at 2.6 million for urban districts[6] and 7 million for the metropolitan jurisdiction.[7] The population in 2015 was estimated at 7.7 million people. From 1010 until 1802, it was the most important political centre of Vietnam. It was eclipsed by Huế, the imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyễn Dynasty (1802–1945), but Hanoi served as the capital of French Indochina from 1902 to 1954. • Anti-China protest continues inside Hanoi, Sunday June 12th 2011

HANOI (AP) -- Hundreds of Vietnamese staged an anti-China protest Sunday for the second week in a row, a day ahead of the country's planned live ammunition naval drill amid a heated spat over territory in the South China Sea. Waving Vietnamese flags and signs reading "Stop Violating Vietnam's Territory," a couple hundred demonstrators moved from the Chinese Embassy through the capital's streets surrounded by dozens of police and security forces. Hundreds more also protested in southern Ho Chi Minh City. Protests are rare in Communist-run Vietnam and are typically quashed quickly by police. Hanoi has responded feverishly following two incidents in the past month in which it accuses Chinese boats of halting Vietnamese hired vessels from conducting oil and gas exploration in waters o...

Watch Part 2 here: https://youtu.be/kCkCJAdugMU (the train comes!) For some Vietnamese, living next to the train tracks is a part of their daily lives. Hanoi city has a few places where you can witness families go about their daily lives, and move out of the way several times a day to let a passing train go through. Residents will move their tables, chairs, and children off of the tracks just in time for the daily trains. For visitors to Vietnam, this is a very popular place in recent times for photo opportunities. It's a "must do" destination for the Instagrammer, blogger, and photographer. This video is partly a fail, because I ended up not seeing a train and I also didn't eat any street food. But I think the walk itself was still a nice, leisurely one, so I uploaded it anyways. Travel by overnight sleeper train in Vietnam from Danang to Hanoi! I rode the 4-berth soft sleeper and toured the 6-berth hard sleeper near the end. Please help give it a thumbs up, comment, and share with a friend! Your extra love helps keep this channel going. I appreciate you, thank you dearly. Hi family! Alright...so this overnight train ride to Hanoi was not the most pleasant for me; however, it is still a great way to travel Vietnam. Here are some things I'd recommend you doing if you are considering taking the sleeper train: -DO bring food & snacks! No food cart rolled around during the entire 16 hour train ride. I kept trying to listen for the wheeling of the cart and even left my door open around dinner time. There was nothing. There was water and hot water though :) Cup o noodles team! -DO bring jacket, scarf, or sarong that you can wear. It gets COLD at night especially as we get closer North. You can even lay them down if you're afraid of unclean bedsheets. -DO check the door & lights in your room when you arrive in case there's some kind of malfunction. You may be able to ask the train staff (who come around sometimes) to switch to another one. -DON'T talk super loudly and be mindful of other passengers in the room. A man ended up taking the berth next to me at 12am and was talking on the phone for a whole hour :/ -DON'T buy your tickets online if you can just get it at the station a few days earlier or even a day earlier! I met a couple of travellers who just showed up that day and booked. It is always cheaper way cheaper at the train station. OR ask your hotel staff to help you book it. Don't go to a tour agency - they'll charge you lots. I was traveling during TET so had no choice but to secure it online. If you're on last resort - check out 12go.asia (the site I use for train & ferry travel in Southeast Asia). If you don't want to take a sleeper train but still want to experience it, take the Vietnam railway train from Hue to Danang or Danang to Hue. It is a 2.5 hour train ride with breathtaking views of Vietnam's coastline! You can just get a regular seat, no sleeper needed. While this train ride didn't go so well for me, I know the experience is different for everyone. Take it or not, it's up to you :)! It IS way better than the overnight busses - or so I heard. Thank you for tuning in! Hope this information helps you when traveling in Vietnam! About CupofTJ: Hi! I'm TJ, travel vlogger and digital nomad.

Welcome to my $300 Tiny Rooftop Apartment Tour in downtown Hanoi, Vietnam! I'm very excited about living in this new apartment! I have all the essentials, plus an outdoor patio deck with garden pond, and an additional roof deck! Living in Southeast Asia is extremely affordable. I really lucked out finding this place, though. This type of place can easily go for $500 or higher in Hanoi. My location is very nice, it's only a 15-minute walk away from Hoan Kiem lake and the Old Quarter area of Hanoi city. I'm close to the French Quarter as well. Down the street is Ga Ha Noi (Hanoi's main train station). My neighborhood is full of street food, cafes, and nice little shops. I had a wonderful 4 and a half years living in Seoul, but it was time to move on to a new chapter of my life. I'm now living in Hanoi, Vietnam! This was my vlog from my last day in Korea and my first day in Vietnam. What an awesome day, although a little bitter sweet. I'm sad to leave Korea, but at the same time excited to be living in Hanoi now. I'll miss everyone in Korea, especially my family and friends. But it's not a problem because I'll be visiting Korea periodically every year and I'll get to see people again. I visited 6 different apartments in Hanoi, Vietnam. Did I find what I was looking for? Watch the video to find out! I went with Apartment 6, which is technically in Tay Ho district, but it's on the south side of the lake and borders Ba Dinh district. It feels more like Ba Dinh than Tay Ho for sure, I see almost no foreigners at all around this neighborhood. I hope you enjoyed this little video. It was fun going out to see what apartments would be like in Hanoi and filming it for you all. Stay tuned for an actual full tour video of my new apartment! From 1954 to 1976, it was the capital of North Vietnam, and it became the capital of a reunified Vietnam in 1976, after the North's victory in the Vietnam War. The city lies on the right bank of the Red River. Hanoi is 1,760 km (1,090 mi) north of Ho Chi Minh City and 120 km (75 mi) west of Hai Phong city. October 2010 officially marked 1000 years since the establishment of the city.[8] The Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural is a 4 km ceramic mosaic mural created to mark the occasion. Location, topography[edit] Hanoi is located in northern region of Vietnam, situated in the Vietnam’s Red River delta, nearly 90 km (56 mi) away from the coastal area. Hanoi contains three basic kind of terrain, which are the delta area, the midland area and mountainous zone. In general, the terrain is gradually lower from the north to the south and from the west to the east, with the average height ranging from 5 to 20 meters above the sea level. The hills and mountainous zones are located in the northern and western part of the city. The highest peak is at Ba Vi with 1281 m, located in the western part of the region. Climate[edit] Hanoi seen from Spot Satellite Hanoi features a warm humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa) with plentiful precipitation.[14] The city experiences the typical climate of northern Vietnam, with 4 distinct seasons.[15] Summer, from May until August, is characterized by hot and humid weather with abundant rainfall.[15] September to October is fall, characterized by a decrease in temperature and precipitation.[15] Winter, from November to January, is dry and cool by national standards.[15] The city is usually cloudy and foggy in winter, averaging only 1.5 hours of sunshine per day in February. Hanoi averages 1,680 millimetres (66.1 in) of rainfall per year, the majority falling from May to September. There are an average of 114 days with rain.[15] The average annual temperature is 23.6 °C (74 °F) with a mean relative humidity of 79%.[15] The highest recorded temperature was 42.8 °C (109 °F) on May 1926 while the lowest recorded temperature was 2.7 °C (37 °F) on January 1955.[15] Old Quarter[edit] The Old Quarter, near Hoàn Kiếm Lake, has the original street layout and architecture of old Hanoi. At the beginning of the 20th century the city consisted of only about 36 streets, most of which are now part of the old quarter. Each street then had merchants and households specializing in a particular trade, such as silk or jewelry. The street names nowadays still reflect these specializations, although few of them remain exclusively in their original commerce.[27] The area is famous for its small artisans and merchants, including many silk shops. Local cuisine specialties as well as several clubs and bars can be found here also. A night market (near Đồng Xuân Market) in the heart of the district opens for business every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening with a variety of clothing, souvenirs and food. Some other prominent places are: The Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu), site of the oldest university in Vietnam 1010; One Pillar Pagoda (Chùa Một Cột) which was built based on the dream of king Lý Thái Tông (1028-1054) in 1049 ; Flag Tower of Hanoi (Cột cờ Hà Nội). In 2004, a massive part of the 900-year-old Hanoi Citadel was discovered in central Hanoi, near the site of Ba Đình Square.[28] Lakes[edit] A city between rivers built from low land, Hanoi has many scenic lakes and is sometimes called "city of lakes." Among its lakes, the most famous are Hoàn Kiếm Lake, West Lake, and Bay Mau Lake (inside Thongnhat Park). Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as Sword Lake, is the historical and cultural center of Hanoi, and is linked to the legend of the magic sword. West Lake (Hồ Tây) is a popular place for people to spend time. It is the largest lake in Hanoi and there are many temples in the area. The lakeside road in the Nghi Tam - Quang Ba area is perfect for bicycling, jogging and viewing the cityscape or enjoying lotus ponds in the summer. The best way to see the majestic beauty of a West lake sunset is to view it from one of the many bars around the lake, especially the Sofitel Plaza rooftop bar.

Hanoi has responded feverishly following two incidents in the past month in which it accuses Chinese boats of halting Vietnamese hired vessels from conducting oil and gas exploration in waters off its central coast. Vietnam says the incidents occurred within 200 nautical miles of its shores, within the economic exclusion area guaranteed by international law. It accuses Chinese boats of cutting cables used to conduct seismic surveys on vessels hired by state-run PetroVietnam. But China responded harshly last week saying the latest clash occurred near the disputed Spratly islands, claimed by both countries along with several other Asian nations. It says the Vietnamese hired boat endangered Chinese fishermen's lives. Vietnam's military exercise is expected to total nine hours Monday off the country's central coast. Boats have been warned to stay out of the area during the drill, which appears to be an apparent response to the flare-up. It was the first time Vietnam has issued such an alert about maritime exercises. A newspaper published by China's ruling Communist Party ran an editorial Saturday warning Vietnam not provoke its much larger northern neighbor. "If Vietnam insists on making trouble, thinking that the more trouble it makes, the more benefits it gains, then we truly wish to remind those in Vietnam who determine policy to please read your history," the editorial concluded. China once ruled over Vietnam for 1,000 years. Vietnam and China have a long history of maritime scraps in disputed parts of the South China Sea near the Spratly and Paracel islands, which are teeming with fish and believed rich in oil and gas reserves. The United States, which has said the South China Sea is in its national interest because of key international shipping lanes, has encouraged a diplomatic process to keep regional tensions from flaring.

The street is so narrow that all residents must ensure their bikes and precious personal belongings, as well as their roaming children, are all safely inside the house before the train passes.  In Hanoi's Old Quarter there is a narrow street that actually has a train rushing through it twice a day. Residents have to move out of the way when the train is approaching. The Old Quarter in Vietnam’s capital city Hanoi is a bustling area of small, narrow streets packed with hundreds of buildings with charming colonial architecture, Buddhist temples and pagodas all crammed next to each other. As the name denotes, it is the oldest area of the town and has long been an important economic center.  In the Old Quarter area, the houses extend right up to edge of the streets and dangerously close to the railway track that cuts across the neighborhood on its way to the Long Bien Bridge. Many blogs and websites say that the daily trains are at 3pm and 7pm. But what many fail to mention is that you should go to the "train street" area on the SOUTH SIDE of the Hanoi Railway Station. Also, there's some talk of the 3pm train no longer existing. It's really unclear for English speakers trying to find info about this. As soon as I can find some concrete info, I'll share it with everyone. I hope you enjoyed this walk around! See you in the next one!!!
